Know IBM Aptiva 712 Problem?

Post by Christopher Louis Bal » Tue, 13 Oct 1998 04:00:00

I'm thinking of putting RH5.1 on my old IBM Aptiva 712 (Model 2144-83P),
a Pentium 60 with 16MB RAM. I have a few questions:

I plan on adding a new 1.0GB Seagate ST-51080A AT/IDE for using Linux
(since the existing 540MB drive is nearly full).

1) Are there any know problems with the Aptiva 712 or the Seagate?

The video chip (an S3) is on the motherboard.

2) Will this pose a problem for X-Windows?

3) If I use PartitionMagic 4.0 or 3.0 to set up the Seagate drive for
the RH install, should I expect any problems?

Thanks.

1. FS/FA: HP 712, 715, IBM RS/6000 340

I've got a few machines left from my last round of auctions, particulars can
be found at:

http://www.comauction.com/com/plsql/typelist?Category=Finished+Goods:...

Included are:

HP 712/80
32mb RAM
424mb Disk
VRAM
Keyboard, mouse
HP-UX 10.20 loaded

HP 715/64
64mb RAM
1gb Disk
Single-speed Toshiba CD
Keyboard, Mouse, HIL Adapter box
HP-UX 10.20 or 11 pre-loaded

IBM RS/6000 PowerServer 340
64mb RAM
500mb Quantum disk
AIX 4.1 or 4.2.1 preloaded, 4.1 on 8mm included

Now considering all offers, can make available at agreed-to price through
ComAuction for a flat-rale sale as opposed to auction so that you can pay by
various methods and still have escrow-type protection (at no cost to
buyer)...
