Modem problem, stty I/O error

Post by Hanspeter Pfist » Fri, 12 Apr 1996 04:00:00

Hi,

I just installed LINUX, so please excuse if this problem seems
trivial to some of you. Trying to set up my internal modem I
ran into the following:

stty -a < /dev/cau1
stty: Standard input: I/O Error

Furthermore (or consequently?), I was not able to use my modem with
"seyon". "setserial" reports the following:

/dev/cua0 at 0x03f8 (irq=4) is a 16550A  # COM1, 1st serial port
/dev/cua1 at 0x02f8 (irq=3) is a 16550A  # COM2, the modem
/dev/cua2 at 0x02e8 (irq=3) is a 16550A  # COM4, 2nd serial port

Is there a problem using two serial devices at the same interrupt
line? How would I easily change these interrupt assignments? Has
anybody experienced the same with "stty"?

Hardware:
Internal modem: Supra 288i SP (28.8)
Connected to: COM2, IRQ3, address 2f8
UART  NS 16550AN

Software:
Red Hat Linux, V3.03

Thanks,

        Hanspeter

1. stty/modem/pppd settings with Cardinal inetrnal modem

Hi,

I am not sure if it is the modem setting or just the modem of the other
end of my PPP connection. But I always get Errors in the receive-line of
ifconfig and the transmission is very slow 1,1 KB/s instead of 3,2 KB/s.
I screwed around with the setup of the serial-port stty, the option file
of pppd and the Modem that I am now totally confused.

I have a Cardinal internal modem.

Can someone help me and send the modem init-strings, stty settings and
the option file of pppd ?
Email would the best...

Thanks !
