How to add programs to menus?

Post by Flyin » Wed, 24 Feb 1999 04:00:00

Hi all,
Can anyone tell me how to add programs to the menu
in WindowMaker's desktop? I have added some programs < some apps,
& some utilities etc.> From a Caldera Open 1.3 to my RedHat 5.2
They run fine when launched from xterm but it would be great if I could
just add them to my programs menu on my WM desktop.
Thanks for any help given !

Mike

You are using RH5.2 right? In that case, I believe WPrefs.app will let
you configure the menus from within WM itself. No need to edit any
text configuration files. :) So find it! If you haven't mess around
with RH's default configuration for WM, its icon should be on dockit.

However, there is a slight hitch. On RH's default configuration, the
submenus from Programs (or was it Applications?) are generated by
wmconfig dynamically and then piped to the Programs menu. You can't
use WPrefs.app to change them. Instead, go to the /etc/X11/wmconfig
directory and create your own entries. If you can figure out how to,
study a few examples in there, eg. netscape, emacs, gimp. It is really
easy.

1. How to add/remove programs from the "start menu"

Hi!
I'm a newbie in Linux. After installing Linux and XFree86 i ran into a
problem: the "start menu", which you get by left-clicking on the
desktop, contains tons of programs which do not exist on my computer.
And it lacks MANY important applications, which I would like to add
there. How do I modify this "start menu" (please tell me also the
correct name of the menu)?
