nonexistent vmlinuz?

Post by Martin Marsha » Thu, 04 Jan 1996 04:00:00

Hi, I am trying to set up slackware on a 486 with an ide cd rom drive.
Since I can't get the cd rom drive to work (even by telling Linux the
port number and IRQ of the drive), I have resorted to installing the
base system off of floppies.

For some reason whenever I try to setup Linux, the file /vmlinuz never
appears, and it is impossible to setup a working Lilo program because
of this.

What part of the installation process creates the vmlinuz file?  What
purpose does it serve?  And what might I be doing wrong?

Thanks for any help or suggestions.

This file is the result of kernel compilation process.
Perhaps your kernel is not named /vmlinuz but /zImage. Thats the old
name for the kernel.
If you dont have any of these files you should recompile your kernel
source and setup LILO. Read the appriciate HOWTO to find out how to
solve...olf
