If it's an ide cdrw, then a specially kernel module needs to be loaded
for cdrecord to see it.
I presume by "doesn't see it" you mean that "cdrecord -scanbus"
returns nothing ?
The name of the module that has to be loaded is ide-scsi. See if you
can run the command "insmod ide-scsi" and then see if cdrecord
-scanbus detects it.
If that doesn't work, consult the more detailed instruction in the
CD-Writing HOWTO:
http://www.linuxdoc.org/HOWTO/CD-Writing-HOWTO-2.html
Go into the Quickstart section and look at the IDE instructions.
If it seems intimidating, consider that I recently installed Mandrake
7.1 on a machine with an IDE CDRW and I was delighted to discover that
it recognized the writer and configured everything for me, so I could
just go straight to work with cdrecord and XCDroast (I think I had to
recompile xcdroast).
