Hi,
Dell Inspiron 4000/8000 is very good for linux.
the only function I cannot use under linux is the small btn with a "E" printed
on it. Under windows, it will bring me to Dell's web page (or any other
command programmed). Does any one know how to program it under linux? Also, I
don't dear to hot swap the CD/FDD slot. Has anyone tried that before? Thanks!

For using the key, try the i8kutils package:

For hot swap, maybe Tim Stadelmann's hotswap will work for you:
