Paradise VLB WD90C31 card: What is the video card?

Post by David.W.. » Fri, 05 May 1995 04:00:00

I have a paradise SVGA with a WD90C31 chipset on it.  Linux claims to support
the WD90C31, but I would like to know which card to use.  I try to set it up with
the XFree86Config (it might be ConfigXFree86. I don't remember.)  and there
is no listing for Paradise cards.

Please help me.

1. SVGAlib and Paradise VL card (WD90C31)

It seems that SVGAlib doesn't like my video card.
The card is Paradise Accelerator VL, Western Digital. There are two VLIS chip
on the card: WD90C31A (I believe this is accelerator) and WD90C56
(I believe this is RAMDAC), 1 Meg DRAM.
It supports  1280x1024x16, 1280x960x16, 1024x768x256 - at least for Win3.1 :-)

Ghostscript refuses to run if I specify resolution better then 640x480x16.
Say, on 'gs -sDEVICE=linux -r800x600x256' I get:

Initializing...   Using VGA driver.

Selected SVGLib resolution 800x600x256
<screen blink here>
Unrecoverable error: rangecheck in setscreen
Operand stack:
    --nostringval-- 0  -0.0  true  -nostringval--

Also, 'vgatest' (from /usr/lib/svgalib) offers only VGA modes.

There is no selection offered for WD chip in  /usr/local/lib/libvga.config
so I've chosen C0 (chipset undefind - autoconfigure).

Any help would be gratly appreciated.

p.s.: I have Slackware 2.0.2, kernel 1.1.54, svgalib 1.12.
