Well, I would start at:

http://www.ssc.com/linux/linux.html

for alot of information, HowTo's, etc.  Look in the local book
store for a good Linux text.  I personally recommend:

'Linux SECRETS', Barkakati, IDG Books, ISBN 1-56884-798-X

I am sure there are others, but this is the one I use and like.
An excellent series on UNIX, X, and related subjects are published
by O'Reilly and Associates.  A good source for general UNIX stuff
on the web is at:

http://www.eecs.nwu.edu/unix.html

Its the UNIX Reference Desk from Northwestern University.
Hope this helps...

Get one of the Linux Documention Project manuals ie :
* Installation and Getting Started, version 2.2.2 by Matt Welsh
  (install-guide-2.2.2.html.tar.gz).

Can be found at http:://sunsite.unc.edu/mdw/linux.html#general

or get a good Un*x book. Alternativ get the "Linux Bible 4th edition".
