LILO problems with dual boot

Post by Gus » Sun, 31 Dec 1899 09:00:00

I have gone through the install for the new linux software i just bought,
and i can't get the bootloader to install.. for some reason it just says
that there's an error... i have a /boot partition, a / partition and a /usr
partition... and then a dos partition for running win98 also..  I can get
LILO to load if i use the boot disk, and i can actually get the OS up and
running, but if i just start the computer, since i didn't sucessfully
install the boot loader, it just hangs up with LI on the screen after my
BIOS stuff gets done.. please help me :)

thanks,
a Stumped linux newbie

LILO problems with dual boot

Are the partitions in the order you state them?  The most
common problem leading to the situation you describe is that
the kernel (presumably in your /boot partition) is located
above the 1024 cylinder boundary on the drive.

LILO problems with dual boot

this is kinda related to gus's problem.
I also hang up w/ only LI on the screen.
My question is how you get rid of the LILO boot.
I just would like my computer to boot straight to windows.

LILO problems with dual boot

If you want to forget about Linux entirely, just run
the DOS FDISK.EXE command with the undocumented option:
  FDISK /MBR

1. Lilo dual boot setup problem; booting win from hdg

Yello

I can't get win98 to boot from hdg with lilo. I have to drive on a
Promise ATA100 controller: linux hde and win98 on hdg.
If I try to boot win98 lilo just halts at: L?
I am pretty sure I have to use map-drive but how I don't know.
This is my lilo.conf:

boot=/dev/hde
disk=/dev/hde
    bios=0x80
default=linux
restricted
password= ( secret :)
map=/boot/map
install=/boot/boot.b
message=/boot/message
lba32

image=/boot/vmlinuz-2.4.17-0.6
        label=linux
        read-only
        root=/dev/hde7
        append=" video=matrox:vesa:0x11C"
....
 (47 other kernels ;)
...
other=/dev/hdg1
        optional
        label=Winblows98
# Which of this is right
#       table=/dev/hdg
#       map-drive = 0x80
#       to = 0x81
#       map-drive = 0x81
#       to = 0x80
