TapeStor tape drive problem

TapeStor tape drive problem

Post by Anthony Lac » Sun, 31 Dec 1899 09:00:00

I am trying to get an atapi tape drive (seagate Tapestor) to work
under linux without much success.  If I put a tape in the driver
it makes some noises and a light flashes for a second ot two
(= drive powered up).  There is a device  /dev/ht0.  If I try;

tar -tvf /dev/ht0

I get segmentation fault.  Same if I do mt /dev/ht0

If I do

modprobe ide-tape

it installs

ide-probe               5752   0  (autoclean)
ide-tape               18808   0
ide-mod                34864   0  [ide-probe ide-tape]

if I do the above again I still get segmentation fault.

What am I doing wrong?

TIA,

Do you have IDE tape support compiled as a module?

1. Seagate's TapeStor 8GB SCSI DAT Tape Drive and Linux 1.2.39

Anyone have any experiences installing and running this Seagate tape
drive off of an Adaptech AHA2940 SCSI controller on Linux 1.2.39?
Specifically its Seagate product # STD280000N.

I'd appreciate any and all input.  Thanks

Cheers,
