Post by Leo Smit » Mon, 24 Mar 1997 04:00:00

I am having problem with using my Compaq 33.6 DSVD modem.
When I do setserial on modem, it shows the UART is unknow.
And consequently I can't use minicom to dial out.
Any suggestions? Thanks
Bill

From the Linux Incompatibility List that I maintain at lil.ashpool.com

Category: modems
Manufacturer Name: Any
Model Name/Number: All DSVD modems
Description: DSVD modems
Level of difficulty: 1. No driver - does not function with Linux
Reason for incompatibility: 3. The manufacturer will not release specs
Misc. notes:
Working on a driver:

A bit general, but so far, no one has told me that any of them
function.  If you do manage to get it working, I would appreciate it
if you let me know.

Good luck,

If you have a Compaq 33.6 VSC, it is a winmodem and will not work with
Linux.  These are shipping with Compaq Presarios.  See if it will work
with DOS (not Windows), first.  If it does work, you may be able to tweak it
into action with the isapnp tools.  Otherwise, there is no way to get
a Winmodem working without Microsoft Windows.
