X Windows and my old old old old video card

Post by Aniruddha Shanka » Sun, 31 Dec 1899 09:00:00

Hi. The card in question is an ISA ATI Graphics Ultra Pro (with the mach32
engine). The particular monitor that I'm using is an AST Vision 4L, and I
managed to root through the AST website (talk about counterintuitive!) so
I could get the horiz and vert scan lines etc. I can't seem to get X setup
right, when I run probe, it complains about a missing clocks line. Is
there any doc which can EXPLAIN xf86config? A man page helps, but getting
the theory fundas would be even nicer.

I'm pleasantly surprised at the level of support the linux community
provides. Also, being something of a DOS/Windows junkie ;=( in the past,
i'd appreciate it if I could be told where to get my hands on info that'll
help me migrate better.

in the x86config   process  you really need to take a magnifying glass and
bright flashlight to read the chip numbers and write them down -- mach 64
chip sets are diffrent -- like my 2mg  vlb card    your chipset    is going
to be diffrent

also small but important  niceity    SuSE has sax  it allows you to apply
things before proibe x
if you did the mouse wrong -- no x-- same keyboard --- no x   so use a $5.00
two button mouse
get a monitor that will do 1024x7--(extended or super )
and inspect the chip sets --write down all  the numbers amd
pay intelligent attention to your choices in
you have ramdac and clock chip

try  XF86Setup

Thus you need the XF86_Mach32 x-server and XFree86, version 3.3.3.1
(edit)

I explain "all" on :   http://www.xmission.com/~howardm/Xwoes.html

1. ufstype=old = how old? SunOS fstype=4.2 old?

Hi all,

Can I mount under Linux old file systems that were built
on a SunOS 4.1x box that lists the fstype in /etc/fstab as 4.2?

If so, is the proper ufstype=old?

I've checked the man page for mount as well as
/usr/src/linux/Documentation/filesystems/ufs.txt without finding
anything other than "old".  This will be some work to set up
so I thought that I'd ask before diving in.

Thanks,

Dick
