Okay i am not used to PC's so bear with me
I have been using Unix boxes for many years but
i just recently purchased a home PC and on someone's
advice (who i will be killing shortly :)) i decided
klets install Linux...After much time and many cups
o coffee..I have Linux installed...I am running xdm
(still have problem getting ppp to wokr but thats a
whole different story)...my problem now is my cdrom drive..
I am running slackware 2.2 from the Linux Unleashed book
and have a NEC:273 ATAPI/IDE CDROM drive (which i am taking
from specs...i am not quite up to task on all of the newest
PC tech)...Anyway i KNOW that when i used my initial boot
and root disks for boot i would see a line recognizing my cdrom
as /dev/hdc...however i could not access it....
What do i need to do ????
i have tried mounting it and etc but no luck..
Also i have gotten some advice but i REALLY do not
understand COMPLETELY IRQ's and an addressing system
they keep refferring to like this 0X???
or something like that..Anyway can someone please help
Thanks in advance

Are you sure you're using a kernel that has IDE CD support and iso9660
file system support?

That's not PC-specific, that's C style hexadecimal.

1. Need networking help. Please help me :)

Hi

I'm new to Linux.  Just installed Redhat Linux and cannot get the
network cards to work correctly.  I have 2 cards and i want to get a t
least one working.  Linux recognizes the PCI card which is  Linksys
card.  The card is recognized as Tulip but on startup, it does not load
correctly.  It says that it failed.  I really don't know my way around
Linux and i have gnome and kde installed.  This means that I need as
much help as i can get.  :)

I've been looking for information all day today and yesterday on the web
and cannot find anything.  I say something about configuring rc...  but
i don't know how to do that.  I have also been on irc without any
success.  I would appreciate ANY help  :)

Please help
