AReplace SRM w/ ARC, AS200??

Post by Haye » Wed, 07 May 1997 04:00:00

        Please help . . .

I wish to install the latest version of the ARC console
on my AlphaStation 200 which currently has SRM. Can anyone point me in
the right direction?

                Thanks in advance,

                        K-mann

You may already have it, there were some AlphaStation 200 systems
shipped
with `half-flash (rom)' and some with `full flash'. if you have full
flash
you should have ARC installed, at the SRM console prompt do:

Quote:>>> set os_type nt

then power off/on. If it comes back into the ARC console you are OK, if
it
boots back into the SRM console you probably have a `half-flash'
machine,
and will need to re-load the firmware. How ? Mount the firmware CD under
your favorite O/S and look for the documentation. The filenames are
fairly
obvious, go read...
If you do not have a firmware CD, go buy one! they are not that
expensive.

1. Latest AS200 ARC firmware

Browsing through previous posts it looks like there are several
versions of the ARC firmware upgrade for the AS200. One is at:

        http://www.windows.digital.com/ntsbuftp/index/epid152.htm

and another is at:

        ftp://ftp.digital.com/pub/DEC/Alpha/firmware/v5.1/alpha200

Without actually having tried either of them, one difference between
them seems to be that the 1st one has multiple language support. From
the name, it is version 6.7. The README file accompanying the 2nd one
states 4.57.

I would be tempted to conclude that it is best to upgrade to 6.7 since
it is newer. Could someone please confirm this?

Thanks,
