Install Problems NIC and X86

Post by Mike Friedma » Tue, 01 Jul 1997 04:00:00

Hi all:

I'm a Linux newbie, but a pretty experienced NT, Novell and OS/2
administrator. I've just installed Caldera's new Open Linux 1.1 on my
75mhz pentium machine and everything seems to be working fine, except
for two things:

1. It won't recognize my network card (Intel EtherExpress Pro 10+ ISA)
even though that is a listed card. I tried loading the module by hand,
but even when I enter in the IRQ and port, it doesn't see the card.

2. Every time I try to exit the X86 desktop, it doesn't dump me back to
the command prompt.

Any help in fixing these problems would be much appreciated!

Are you using X-based login?  If so, exiting the desktop just takes
you back to the login again.  Try Ctrl-Alt-F1 to get a text mode
login prompt.  (Use Ctrl-Alt-F7 to get back to X.)
