Cirrus Logic 7555 PCI Micron Display

Post by Mark Nichol » Fri, 28 Mar 1997 04:00:00

I?have installed Red Hat 4.1 and XFree86 3.2 on my new Micron laptop
successfully.Except for being able to run X Windows that is. I cannot
find the drivers or appropriate config file for this chipset / display.
The display is 64k colors , 2mb vram,  800x600 resolution. The chipset
as determined by
Win 95 is Cirrus Logic 7555.

Can somebody help me out ? Thanks  in advance !

Mark

I'm in the same boat.  It looks like the chipset is too new to be supported
yet by either XFree or the commercial packages.  I'm trying to see if I
can kludge together a patch to the driver, but recompiling X is always

me up the wall every few years when I need to do a full recompile.)

If I manage to get any useful results I'll try to let you know, and post
here too.

Hi,

I've managed to hack together a version of the XFree86 3.2 drivers to
provide some support for the Cirrus 7555 chipset.  Basically it's treating
the chip like a 754X chip.  It seems to mostly work.  There are some problems,
like the fact that when you exit X, the display doesn't come back (I think
it's displaying black characters on a black background).  If anyone would
like to try it, at their own peril, you can take a look at:
