configuring Pine with wingate server

configuring Pine with wingate server

Post by Scott Flemin » Tue, 20 Jul 1999 04:00:00

Granted, I've got my configuration *backwards* so please do not reply with
the standard, "You're best bet is to put the linux box as the server.."

Server is a win98 box, running wingate
Client is RH 5.2 with fetchpop installed.

I am able to write and send email through Pine out without a problem,
however when fetchpop goes to retrieve the mail, I get an authentication

Does anyone have this configuration working, if so, please advise for
configuration help.

Thanks in advance

1. Configuring Linux to Connect Through Wingate Server

I have a Wingate server set up and one of my workstations is running
Mandrake Linux 7.2.  The server works properly with Win98 clients and
networking works properly from the Linux machine but I cannot get the
configuration right for Linux to use the server to connect to the internet.

I have tried several different configurations and I always get messages to
the effect that my name server is not working properly, although I have
tried using the ones from my ISP and as reccommended at Wingate (for
connecting MacOS to wingate) I used the server IP as a name server.  Nothing
works.  If anyone has managed to get this working (I'm told it is possible
to do) I would appreciate some assistance.

I do not have Extended Networking installed on the server as it is Wingate and doesn't support it.  If you know how and need extra information
please tell me.
