Informix SE on Linux => Zombie

Informix SE on Linux => Zombie

Post by Lars Sitzman » Tue, 15 Jun 1999 04:00:00

Hello,
I have a problem using Informix SE on a Linux system.
Each 'sqlexec'-process the sqlexecd spawns remains in the system
until the 'sqlexecd'-process itself exits.
After some time, all these zombie-processes use all available
resources, so the system can do no more 'fork's.
How can I tell the sqlexecd to ignore the SIGCHLD-signal so the
zombies can terminate?

I am using SuSE 6.0 with Kernel 2.2.4 and SMP enabled and
Informix SE 7.24.

Thanx for any help,
LARS

This is about the oldest problem in the Informix on Linux book.
It has been extensively discussed numerous times over the last
year or so.  The best bet is to upgrade to the glibc version of
the SE, or to IDS.  There are workarounds of greater or lesser
apallingness in the Linux and D4GL corners of the IDN web site
at http://www.informix.com/idn/
Also check out the Linux info at the IIUG web site (iiug.org).

This is Ye Olde Zombie problem.  It has been fixed in a later release
and there are workarounds posted.  Best bet, download the newer release.
