I've had little trouble installing linux from the slackware cdroms.
I made a boot disk for the ide/atapi cdrom interface, and had no
trouble with the base installation. I noticed a message flashing by--
when booting from floppy disk: hdc=FX001DE IDE/ATAPI CDROM.
After reading the CDROM HOWTO instructions, I ran MAKEDEV.ide1,
which I found in /usr/src/linux-1.2.1/drivers/block
Also according to instruction, I put added mcd=0x0170,15
to the lilo header (0x0170,15 is where and how this cdrom seems to run
under dos)
But mount -t is09660 -r /dev/mcd /mnt
as suggested in the CDROM HOWTO, for mitsumi cdroms, leads to the message
"not a valid block device"
The problem, I guess, is referencing device mcd, when the boot floppy
found it at hdc=FX001DE. I don't know how to create this driver.
I've tried installpkg idecd1.tgz, etc, and have re-compiled the kernal
several times, choosing what seemed to be the right configurations.
What's my next step?
There have been a lot of Mitsumi questions recently, with little
resolution of issues, questions. If I get the necessary help, or if
I eventually figure this out on my own, I'll try to post good summar.
Thanks!
