Red Hat 5.1 installation

OK I got as far as the place where you set up partitions but that's it.

Here's what my 5.1 gig hard drive looks like
Primary partition
C: Win95 system files and IE4 502 MB FAT16
Extended Partition
logical drive D: Windows programs, my files, game demos, other programs
2500 Mb
FAT32
(I left the rest of the space unpartitioned in anticipation of Linux

When I start disk druid to set up partition types it shows 5 partitions
hda1 502Mb
hda2 4416 Mb
Hdd1 900,000 Mb
hdd2 800,000 Mb
hda3 400,000 Mb

I select Hda2 and I try to change the type to Linux but it says the
current type
is unknown 0xf.

What is wrong? Is my Hard drive broken?

2 more notes:(1) The last few clusters on the hard drive are bad.  Would
that cause the problems I listed. (2) Also Hdd isn't really that big!
It's just an LS-120.   Would that cause the problems?
Thanks

hda2 *should* be the extended partition created by windows...under
DOS/windows way of doing things, nothing actually is in the extended
partition...it is simply a place for "logical" partitions to go
(hda5-->) The 0xf has got me, usually linux's fdisk will detect it as a
"5" extended...
Forgive the crudity but this is sort of how it is...

*---------------*-------------------------------------------------------*
  Primary                               Extended
                *------------*----------------------------*-------------*
                  Logical 1        Logical 2                Logical 3

I hope that makes sense ;)

Could do, what kernel are you trying to install? The LS-120 will report
a capacity of 132Mb to the OS...note that there has to be a disk in it
for anything to work...were you planning on leaving a superdisk in the
LS-120 and installing a portion of your linux on that? You'll need
kernel 2.0.34--> to get proper recognition of your LS-120...you can't
boot from it (yet) from Linux even if your BIOS says you can.

1. Red Hat 5.1 installation won't boot off Hard Drive?

I'm a relative beginner at LINUX, however, I have installed it twice before
(once on a laptop) with no problems, so I don't think I did anything totally
dumb.  Followed the book, installed on a fresh system, told it to install
the loader on the Master boot record.  However, when I try to start the
system, I get the following message:

Verifying DMI Pool Data
Not Found on any [active partition] in HDD
Disk boot failure, insert system disk and press enter

When I insert the rescue disk, the system boots fine.  Everything else
appears to work, so I'm not about to muck around with it until I'm sure I
know what I'm doing, but I would like to know if I screwed something up, or
if this is a know problem.  Hints on how to fix it would also be welcome 8^)

FWIW, this is a CTX box, AMD 300 CPU, 6.6gig hard drive.  Everything else is
pretty much plain vanilla.

Installation is Red Hat 5.1

Thanks.
