can't run binaries

Post by @! » Mon, 02 Dec 1996 04:00:00

this is my first posting to anything, so if i*up, spare the
flames...

anyway, i run red hat 3.0.3 linux and i haven't upgraded anything yet.

i can write and compile c++ programs fine, but when i try to execute them
i get the error message:

bash: (nameofprogram) command not recognized.
w/nameofprogram being the name of my program.

could i have any suggestions on how to fix this?

please email me as i probably won't ever find this group again...

my email is:

thanx for any help!

This may sound basic, but have you tried ./nameofprogram
:)

Hmmmm.... might sound basic (no flame replies please), but have you
checked the permissions? If the compiler / script you are running does
not automatically assign executable status (chmod +x programname), it
will not be recognised as an executable.
Hope it helps.
Cheers,

Or even more basic- are the permissions good?

1. Running 4.1.3 binary under S2.3 problems w/ 'older revisions'

Hi,
  I'm trying to get a copy of a program running under Solaris 2.3
It runs and is linked dynamicly under SunOS 4.1.3. It uses Xview calls
and is fairly large.
  Here's what I get when I do a ldd

______________
campbell> ldd vv
ld.so.1: vv: warning: /usr/4lib/libxview.so.3.1 has older revision than expected 61

        libxview.so.3.61 =>      /usr/4lib/libxview.so.3.1
        libolgx.so.3.1 =>        /usr/4lib/libolgx.so.3.1
        libXmu.so.4.10 =>        /usr/X11R5/lib/libXmu.so.4.10
        libX11.so.4.10 =>        /usr/X11R5/lib/libX11.so.4.10
        libXt.so.4.10 =>         /usr/X11R5/lib/libXt.so.4.10
        libXext.so.4.10 =>       /usr/X11R5/lib/libXext.so.4.10
ld.so.1: vv: warning: /usr/4lib/libc.so.1.8 has older revision than expected 9

        libc.so.1.9 =>   /usr/4lib/libc.so.1.8
        libdl.so.1.0 =>  /usr/4lib/libdl.so.1.0
        libucb.so.1 =>   /usr/ucblib/libucb.so.1
        libc.so.1 =>     /usr/lib/libc.so.1
        libw.so.1 =>     /usr/lib/libw.so.1
        librpcsoc.so.1 =>        /usr/ucblib/librpcsoc.so.1
        libnsl.so.1 =>   /usr/lib/libnsl.so.1
        libsocket.so.1 =>        /usr/lib/libsocket.so.1
        libdl.so.1 =>    /usr/lib/libdl.so.1
        libaio.so.1 =>   /usr/lib/libaio.so.1
        libelf.so.1 =>   /usr/lib/libelf.so.1
        libintl.so.1 =>  /usr/lib/libintl.so.1

  I get these errors when I run it also (of course) and then it core dumps.
Any ideas on how to fix this?
  Thanks,
   -Jeff
