Installing Linux via NFS

Installing Linux via NFS

Post by Kent Da » Thu, 14 Dec 1995 04:00:00

Hello to all Linux Gurus,

We are trying to install Linux Slackware 3.0 over the NFS.  We have exported
the Slackware files and directories from our server successfully.  We have
double checked all the network parameters and file system permissions and they
all seem to be all right.  The Linux system is able to read all the mounted
files and directories.  However, when we try to install Linux on the PC we get
the error saying:

Can't find a disk series in a in the source directory.

Does anybody out there who have installed Linux successfully via NFS and
willing to share some pointers?

Thanks very much in advance.

++ Kent

Have you double checked that you do indeed have all the disk sets?  I
think I've seen that problem before when I have forgotten to copy all
the disks on to the slackware NFS server here.  Check what disk set
setup is complaining about.  Then cross check it with the actual
distribution.  If set "A" is the problem, you only have a few
directories to check.

1. Installing Linux via NFS on a DEC 5000/133

Hey,
I just got me a DEC 5000/133 with a stoned copy of Ultrix.  I have
no plans to keep that lame OS, and wish to install Linux.
Here are my problems:
No drives other than the SCSI Hard drive.  NFS is required.
I can't find a linux distribution for Mips.  I know the kernal
supports it, but I have know clue about how to:
    1. Correctly compile the kernal   and
    2. Get that kernal to boot over NFS to clear that Hard  Drive and
install the OS...

Can someone help me out?
What I need is a place to find a Complete Linux Distribution for Mips,
GCC and all, and a way to properly install it via NFS...  Please help!
Thanks,
Mike
