LILO didn't detect SCO installed

Post by Maia » Fri, 22 Aug 1997 04:00:00

Hi there,

I have SCO on one partition and Linux on 2 other
partitions (NON-DOS) and after I reinstalled Linux,
I couldn't boot to SCO.

When  I did an fdisk in linux it showed me these

Disk /dev/hda: 64 heads, 63 sectors, 621 cylinders
Units = cylinders of 4032 * 512 bytes

  Device Boot   Begin   Start   End   Blocks   Id    System
/dev/hda2       100     100     349     504000  83      Linux Native
/dev/hda3       350     350     381     64512   82      Linux swap
/dev/hda4       382     382     611     463680  63      GNU HURD

I am assuming that my SCO partition is in /dev/hda4, Is this correct?

DOS' fdisk shows

Partition       Status  Type    Label   Mbytes  System  Usage
1                       Non-DOS         492             40%
2                       NON-DOS           63            5%
3                       Non-DOS         453             37%

my lilo.conf's entry is
boot=/dev/hda
map=/boot/map
install=/boot/boot.b
prompt
timeout=50
image=/boot/vmlinuz
        label=linux
        root=/dev/hda2
        read-only
other=/dev/hda4
        label=sco
        table=/dev/hda

when I boot and type sco in the lilo prompt, I get an error
and SCO is not loaded.  What should I do to be able to boot
both without reinstalling any of the unix's.

It worked before my linux panic'd, after I reinstalled,
it didn't work anymore. HELP!!!

1. Red Hat cd-rom didn't install LILO, how to get to Linux?

I had a problem installing LILO from the Red Hat 3.0.3 cdrom. I was
installing to my second hard drive (1 gig EIDE). I followed the
instructions about entering hardware parameters in the Large-IDE.howto
but it still didn't work. It also didn't let me set the root password
but I can do that later.

My question is, how do I get to my Linux system? I made the boot
floppy and the two ramdisks from the cdrom but they automatically
start the install. From by brief experience with Slackware I remember
something about being able to make some floppies to boot Linux and be
able to get to your hard drive and work with it. Where do I get some
floppy images to let me get into my Linux system and try to install
LILO? I got the $7 cdrom distribution and I have two IDE hard drives
and an IDE cd-rom. No ethernet, no scsi. Please help me get to my
system!
