POP3 client problem solved (-ERR being read already <path to user mailbox>)

The version of in.pop3d that is shipped with
Slackware 3.3 expects to have a work directory
/var/tmp/.pop. When that directory does not
exist, users will be told that their mailbox is
already being read when they try to access it
via the POP3 server. The directory permissions
should be thus:

drwxrwxrwt   2 root     root         1024 Jul 26 00:33 .pop/

Enjoy.

...mmm...there might be several problems with in.pop3d. Am running
Slackware 3.3.0 with permissions above since installation mid august.
Still "-ERR being read..." pops up when simultaneous smtp and pop3
requests are made.

This is not the first mention of this I've seen.
This does seem to be a bug. If you send and
receive mail at the same time using SMTP and
POP3, access to the mailbox is denied.

Thankfully, most users only go one direction
at a time.

=2E.. Tanks!  Had this problem about six months ago, asked around, and neve=
r
got an answer (that made sense).  Resigned myself and my users to
send/receive localnet mail via telnetting into the server and running
pine.

Recently switched to qmail and imapd.  Haven't re-tried Netscape yet.
Wonder if it'll have the same problem?

There is none. Its a matter of preference.

Edit /etc/X11/XF86Config file by putting a # in front of the line that starts
with the word "virtual".
