Need sbpcd.h & sbpcd.c setup for TEAC CD-55A using TEAC interface card!

I just installed linux on my system, and I'm having the usual
difficulties setting up my system. I compiled a new kernel (1.2.9) in hopes
of correcting the problem, but that got me nowhere with respect to my CD-ROM.

If I include support for the sbpcd in the config, the system can find
the drive but it hangs after trying to set /dev/hdb1 and simply stops. I've
tried setting the card address (0x320,0) in the lilo line (sbpcd=0x320,0)
which shortens the search time but does nothing else. Without sbpcd support,
the system boots fine (except for the tape drive support, which I'm still
working on).

If anyone has a copy of sbpcd.h and sbpcd.c configured for this
combination that they could send via email, it would be greatly appreciated.

Ok.

What do you mean? Do you have any problem with the first partition of
your second IDE disk?

Won't help - you have to give a usable error description. Maybe you
should give README.sbpcd a chance next.

1. Teac CD-55A cdrom is weak; should I configure sbpcd.h ?

When I let sbpcd prob my system, it _told_ me I _should_.
(I think this driver is version 4.2; I'll check.)

The drive works a little, but fails a lot.  The failure is
(paraphrase) "I/O timed out by the device."  After one of
these, I cannot access or umount/mount the cdrom until I
reboot.   :-(

When I look at sbpcd.h, I see some attributes for this
old Teac.  However, I don't see that my user-specified
options will invoke anything different than for vanilla
non-clone Sound Blaster.  Since I have only one cdrom
drive, I see no use in configuring.

Booting "LILO sbpcd=0x230,1" bypasses about 5 minutes of
autoprobing.  So now I use skakware's 3.1 distribution
bare kernel, instead of theirs which has sbpcd in it.

Regardless of whether sbpcd autoprobes or I specify the
address, the cdrom seems to work OK.  But for anything
major, it fails.

I can mount a cd and browse around a little with less.  A slackware
install can successfully reinstall a couple of the "A" packages
directly off the cdrom, however, it always fails on one of the "D
packages.

P.S. I already asked this question on comp.os.linux.hardware:

Q.  Should I _really_ configure sbpcd.h and gen a kernel?
