Before running doom, enter

setenv DOOMWADDIR <whatever directory the doom.wad file is in>

if you're using tcsh, or the equivalent command for whatever other
shell you are running.

Make sure the .wad file is called doom1.wad, for Doom version 1,
or doom2.wad (for version 2) and not doom1v18.wad or whatever the
distributed wad file is called.

Lauch "rundoom" instead of "doom".
