'yeah, I know there's alot of stuff in the faq's about the problems with
Diamond video cards, but I want to make sure I understand correctly.
Can the Speedstar Pro ISA work with XFree86 and co. or not? I've got one that
I'd like to put into a machine I'm building that will be a dedicated Linux
machine. And if the card will work, then I'm almost finished (still need a
case, though! :) ) I'll swear that I saw the card listed in the video card
database in X86Config? !! ??
Now, don't get me wrong here. I'm a complete Linux newbie (probably very
obvious, and not worth mentioning at this point, but, WTF?), and DO NOT WANT
TO HAVE TO SUPER TWEAK the video settings in order to use this card. I would
much rather buy another card that works without alot of additional
"tweaking" (hopefully, six months from now, I'll feel comfortable with
attempting to make a somewhat uncompatible piece of hardware work in a Linux
system. But then again, maybe not!)
Anyway, if the Speedstar Pro ISA is not a good choice, could somebody
recommend a good, inexpensive card that is widely available at the bigger
stores like CompUSA, MicroCenter, Best Buy, Computer City, etc. I sincerely
appreciate any and all assistance that you may be able to provide me in this
matter?
Please e-mail responses as news service is not as reliable as I would like.
