RH 3.0.3 bootup problem

RH 3.0.3 bootup problem

Post by yzh.. » Fri, 27 Dec 1996 04:00:00

I have finally been able to install Red Hat 3.0.3 successfully, but when I
bootup, it gets stuck right after the:

         starting sendmail: sendmail

message. I can type anything, but if has no effect. CTRL-ALT-DEL results in

INIT: Runlevel: 6
INIT: Sending process to TERM

or something similar to that. I am running Linux with 24MB physical RAM and a
16MB swap, on a 150MB main Linux partition. Win95 runs on my main DOS
partition.

If someone can help me, it would be much appreciated.

Thank you very much,

Is it possible it is just taking a while on this step ? On my system
starting sendmail does take the longest of the boot steps.

Hello,

I don't know RedHat 3.0.3, but installed RedHat 4.0. In 4.0 rebooting pauses at
the very same command; maybe, it still has the same problem. Look at the Errata
list on their Web-page. You might change HOSTNAME=localhost to
HOSTNAME=localhost.localdomain in /etc/sysconfig/network. My system pauses only
a second or so.
HOWEVER, I cannot "dip" using ppp-protocoll to my office anymore! It gives a
"hostname lookup failure". Any idea on that???

1. SCSI bootup problems under RH 6.2?

Has anyone had problems booting RH 6.2 off of a SCSI HD
when you have IDE masters installed as well?

I have 2 IDE drives and 1 SCSI.
I've installed RH6.2 on /dev/hda1 and Win98 on /dev/sda1.
I've also configured LILO to boot both linux and windows
I had a problem whereby when I tried to boot windows from LILO
I was getting a "Invalid System Disk" error.  I then tried putting
win98 on /dev/hda3 (another partition on the same drive as linux)
and booting from that partition using LILO works fine.

The only thing I can think of as to why win98 won't boot off of the
SCSI drive is because its not initialized (or recognized) at the LILO
prompt? (and yes I have tried all the configurations of LILO)
Is this true?

Thanks
