Zip Drive under Red Hat

Zip Drive under Red Hat

Post by Jos » Tue, 27 Apr 1999 04:00:00

I'm tring to get my Iomega Zip (not the plus) drive to work under Red
Hat Linux 5.2.  I used the following commands:

rmmod lp

insmod ppa

The 'insmod ppa' gave me an error that says:

Quote:>ppa: Version 1.42
>ppa: Probing port 03bc
>ppa: Probing port 0378
>ppa:     SPP port present
>ppa:     PS/2 bidirectional port present
>ppa: Probing port 0278
>scsi : 0 hosts.
>/lib/modules/preferred/scsi/ppa.o: init_module: Device or resource busy

I can't mount my Zip Drive until I can get this ppa to load.  I ran
lsmod to see what was loaded and it was only my ethernet card that was
loaded.  When I did 'desg | more', I found:

Quote:>ppa: Version 1.42
>ppa: Probing port 03bc
>ppa: Probing port 0378
>ppa:     SPP port present
>ppa:     PS/2 bidirectional port present
>ppa: Probing port 0278
>scsi : 0 hosts.

I have my Zip Drive plugged in and when I boot under Win 95, it was
being reconized.  Any leads, advice or help would be appriecated......

Try "modprobe" instead, because there's a need for SCSI-modules to be
loaded before "ppa.o" can.

1. HELP: IDE ZIP drive and Red hat, cannot access Zip drive

Hi Linux friends,

I have a IDE ZIPdrive and want to use it under Linux
Currently I have Redhat 4.1 installed.

During start-up it finds my IDE zip at /dev/hdc (/dev/hdb
is my IDE cdrom), however any attempt to mount a disk or to access with
mtools failed. Mtools gives me a read error, with obscure messages like
hdc: packect command error: status=0x51 error=0x50.... (sigh)

Do I have to upgrade to Redhat 5.0. I read somewhere that it might work.
Does anybody has more experience with this matter and hence could
anybody give me some valuable advice, before I run to the store and buy
redhat 5.0 or get myself a scsi ZIP drive.

Thanx guys,

Hans Kramer
