on-board sound setup

I am trying to set up the on-board opl3 sound card that came with my fic
ka-6100 motherboard. The following is the output from cat /dev/sndstat:
load type: Driver compiled into kernel
Kernel: Linux darkstar 2.2.6 #2 Wed Oct 6 20:19:49 CDT 1999 i686
Config options: 0

Installed drivers:
Type 42: OPL3SA2
Type 43: OPL3SA2 MIDI
Type 1: OPL-2/OPL-3 FM
Type 5: Roland MPU-401
Type 26: MPU-401 (UART)
Type 37: Loopback MIDI Device

Card config:
OPL3SA2 MIDI at 0x330 irq 9 drq 0
OPL3SA2 at 0x530 irq 9 drq 0,1
OPL-2/OPL-3 FM at 0x388 drq 0
Loopback MIDI Device drq 0

Audio devices:

Synth devices:
0: Yamaha OPL3

Midi devices:
0: MPU-401 0.0  Midi interface #1
1: Loopback MIDI Port 1
2: Loopback MIDI Port 2

Timers:
0: System clock

Mixers:

and the following is from cat /proc/interrupts

          CPU0
  0:     130335          XT-PIC  timer
  1:       2209          XT-PIC  keyboard
  2:          0          XT-PIC  cascade
  9:          0          XT-PIC  mpu401
 12:      78092          XT-PIC  PS/2 Mouse
 13:          1          XT-PIC  fpu
 14:      23551          XT-PIC  ide0
 15:          7          XT-PIC  ide1
NMI:          0
.

When I test the speakers with cat somesound.au >/dev/audio I get the
error message 'no such device'.

Dmesg tells me:

Sound initialization started
<MPU-401 0.0  Midi interface #1> at 0x330 irq 9 dma 0
Found OPL3-SAx (YMF719)
<Yamaha OPL3> at 0x388
Sound initialization complete.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

1. Supermicro on-board sound

Does anyone have any experience getting sound to work
with an on-board sound card?  My brand new Supermicro P6SBM
has on-board ESS Solo sound.  I can't seem to get this
working.

Any help anyone can offer would be appreciated.
Thanks
