OS/2 BM and Linux LILO

OS/2 BM and Linux LILO

Post by Davion Faust » Sat, 13 May 1995 04:00:00

Hi:

I've read the Linux FAQ and I don't quite get this one.

I'm running WARP full-pack, and I've got a primary DOS
partition...I want to install Linux and be able to
switch back and forth....

So I create a bunch of free space on my drive (215 MB)
and create a partition - Oh-oh.

I already have 3 primary partitions - Boot Manager, OS/2, and DOS.

So now, how do I do this...will linux install on a logical drive?
Do I need to move OS/2 (what a *)?
Do I install on the dos partition and use lilo to switch
back and forth?

I know I need to create the partition using BM, but BM won't give me the option of
creating another primary partition...Do I create an extended partition and add it to BM's menu?
How do I boot Linux and then install to an extended partition?

HELP!?!

How do I do this?  Can anyone give me a bit more explicit
instructions than are in the FAQ?

Thanks.

create the linux partition with BM.
mark the partition as installable.
create another parttion for a swap space.
boot linux off floppy and use fdisk to change
the partion types to linux native and linux swap.
use setup to install linux.
finish off the intall with lilo installed to the
linux root partion.

now you can use BM to boot all your OSs

Linux didn't see my logical drives created with OS/2's Boot Manager.

I had my OS/2 on a logical drive, and when I re-partitioned, OS/2 moved
from e: to f:  I had to re-install (my fault though ...)

If I were you, I would put OS/2 on the logical drive, since it seems to
work fine on it (and, if you've got > 12 meg. memory, run HPFS!) and
put Linux on the primary partition.  If installing OS/2 again
isn't a big deal, this is your best bet.  You can then mount
these drives when in Linux (yes, Linux can read HPFS ...)
