NTeX under Linux---dvips segfaults, & ghostview not using right fonts

Post by Sriram C. Krishn » Sat, 15 Feb 1997 04:00:00

Hi:

I just installed NTeX, from the Slackware Aug. 96 CDROM distribution
of Linux.

Latex seems to work fine.
dvips segfaults immediately. Without any options or input
it is supposed to print the list of command line options,
it segfaults in this case too.

Also, xdvi does not seem to handle overlays properly, and
ghostview does not seem to display the right fonts--the fonts
displayed are much smaller than should actually be.

Any help/insights would be very much appreciated.

Thanks,
Sriram

Grab the Oct. 96 InfoMagic CDROM and re-install the NTeX from
disk 5 (sunsite apps dir).

The installation on that CDRom is 1.2 the latest is 2.x

I think the best solution is to grab the new N disks off
ftp.cdrom.com:/pub/slackware/slakware/n*
.  This is teTeX 0.4, a system I find much more logical.
Plus, it still uses the Slackware install system, something you
won't get from just grabbing another NTeX.

Hi.  I tried this out (grabbed NTeX from sunsite).  dvips is still a
little flaky.  It is the one that prints out "Radical Eye".  It creates
.ps files that are offset vertically in ghostscript.  Converting these
files to tiff fax format with ghostscript causes pages past the first to
be dropped.  Printing to an Apple 810 comes up in landscape, so the
image is truncated.  Printing to a NTII works just fine.  xdvi works
fine.  Like I said, a little flaky.  Someone suggested it is a problem
with ghostscript 2.6.2 or a ghostscript installation problem, but I
don't think so, because these are pure PostScript printers (no
ghostscript filtering) that I am attempting to print to.  This really
appears to be a dvips problem, but I cannot read PostScript well enough
to spot the problem.  Eric

1. NTeX, dvips font prob

I recently installed Slackware 3.0 with NTeX, and failed to find
the TeX (as opp. LaTeX) installation doc.  I now find that LaTeX
seems to work OK, but dvips can't find any fonts, and can't create
them either.  I tried setting TEXFONTS to /usr/lib/texmf/fonts//
(from memory, but I'm quite sure of it) without any benefit.

This is the script (abbrev.):

Any ideas?
