I compiled with

CONFIG_FB=y
CONFIG_FB_MATROX=m
CONFIG_FB_MATROX_G100=y
CONFIG_FBCON_ADVANCED=y
CONFIG_FBCON_CFB4=y
CONFIG_FBCON_CFB8=y
CONFIG_FBCON_CFB16=y
CONFIG_FBCON_CFB24=y
CONFIG_FBCON_CFB32=y

in the kernel configuration, then loaded the module with

/sbin/insmod /lib/modules/2.2.14/matroxfb.o vesa=440 fv=75 init sgram
fastfont=4096.

This gives a 128x44 framebuffer console.

dmesg says:

matroxfb: Matrox Millennium G200 (AGP) detected
matroxfb: MTRR's turned on
matroxfb: 1024x768x24bpp (virtual: 1024x2728)
matroxfb: framebuffer at 0xE8000000, mapped to 0xd08c0000, size 8388608
fb0: MATROX VGA frame buffer device

So it should work. Perhaps some fiddling in the bios? I don't know what
vmware-tools have to do with this, or do you have a problem in X? If
that, try dejanews or an X newsgroup.

Good luck,
Jurriaan

I have fresh Red Hat from the Shelf and try to
Install Linux, but it has problems with the video
clock settings on the card, or something like it.
Anybody??
