setup of Redhat 5.2 from harddisk

setup of Redhat 5.2 from harddisk

Post by Theolsen » Thu, 07 Jan 1999 04:00:00

I'm a newbie trying to setup RH52 from harddisk, as everytime I try from the
CD it just drops out of the install program. Anyway, using install from
harddisk, I can get through to choosing where the setup files lie, ie
Redhat/base, redhat/rpms.

I have two Harddisks, one with Fat32 & Linux native new partitions, the
other with Fat16. Both the Fat 32 and Fat16 partitions have the correct
trees on them! But the loader just says it can't find them.

Can anybody help?

Try RedHat/RPMS and RedHat/base.

I had the same problem... According to RedHat it is a bug in the installation
process, it almost never works!
You have to create boot disks with new images.

See http://www.redhat.com/support/docs/rhl/rh52-errata-general.html#BootImg
for further information.

I have had the same problems installing form hard disk. The good news is that
there is a solution. If you goto;
http://www.redhat.com/support/docs/errata.html
and then click on the hotlink to the general errata page and then the boot disk
hotlink, you will now be able to download a new boot.img and supp.img. Rawrite
them to disk and enjoy. It will work now. The problem is because of problems with
linux converting all Fat long file names to lower case and the install for redhat
is looking for RPMS in uppercase. The new boot and supp images fix this great.

setup of Redhat 5.2 from harddisk

Thanks everyone. I had the same problem, did the usual double checking of what I
had set up and wondered what went wrong. I was at a client site and it was
somewhat embarrassing and cost me a couple of extra hours.

1. harddisk installation problems with redhat 5.2

I recently downloaded redhat 5.2 from a ftp server. I've downloaded the
RPMS, base, images, instimage, dosutils and some howto's. i've created the
bootdisks with rawrite. Boot goes fine, make the 2 partitions goes also
fine. But then I'm asked for the directory containing the installation
files. I've put those on a dos fat16 partition in the directory redhat, and
the other dirs as subdir. If I enter that path, I get a message frive hda5
doesn't contain a redhat installation tree.

Does anybody know what I did wrong????
