Help with configuring modem

Post by patrick blana » Thu, 26 Jun 1997 04:00:00

I need some help.

I have recently installed linux and have been trying to set up my modem
properly.

I managed to get my modem to work but it responds very slowly to any
command that I give to it.

I have a Supra Express 28.8 internal modem on Com 3.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Pat

Looks like a irq conflict to me (at first glance). Com3 (=cua2) is set
usually to irq 4 together with com1 (=cua0). So try to put it on
e.g. irq 5. See the Serial HOWTO.

(sigh)

I'm tempted to say "use a search engine" . This is a real FAQ.

You can't share IRQs properly on the standard ISA bus without
using specific hardware stop Instead you do have to make sure that
every device gets an IRQ of its own stop Put your modem (presently
setup per default to be using IRQ 4 , just like /dev/cua0) on an
IRQ of its own (by setting jumpers or thelike) stop Run 'setserial'
to tell Linux about the new configuration stop See 'man setserial'
for the syntax stop See Serial-HOWTO for details stop
