another really simple question, sorry for that.
but i've gotten great help before and i really appreciated !
i have a feeling my parallel port is not recognized,
resulting in print jobs just getting lost.
when i do cat /proc/devices, lp does not show up.
- does that mean i have not built parallel port support into
my kernel ?
- does that mean i have to recompile my kernel ?
- i tried to configure my printer with the control-panel (redhat5.2)
or printtool (same). lp1 seems to get recognized,
but neither of the three options for test pages produces any output.
as root i can echo "hello world" > /dev/lp1 and nothing
whatsoever happens.
lp0 and lp2 produce some error messages with this.
printer is a canon bjc1000, supposed to work (hard to believe,
driver probably bjc600, i guess ??? )
according to the 'pht supported printers' page on picante.
- can fire up lpd 'by hand' or on bootup.
lpc up lp, also starts the demon, but lpc status dosn't show it's
there.
guess this doesn't really matter, though at this stagem right ?
so there is a whole lot, probably different issues. maybe to illustrate
my illiteracy and to point out, the problem could be somewhere else,
then i might think.
greatly appreciate any help
