MS Intellimouse Trackball not working with XFree86-3.3.3-1

Post by Scott Swanso » Mon, 11 Jan 1999 04:00:00

Hello,

I have a Microsoft Intellimouse Trackball.  I'm trying to get it working
properly under XFree86-3.3.3-1.  When I configure it as an Intellimouse
(PS/2) and run X, the mouse just spazzes out and then disappears.  if it
configure it as a Generic PS/2 mouse, it appears to work properly.  Does
anyone know why this is?  I'd like to get the use of the wheel (you can
click it like a button) as the 3rd button, and I don't get that with the
generic PS/2 mouse setting.

One a side note, does anyone know if the mouse wheel is supported for
scrolling windows under X like it does under Win9x and NT?

Thanks,

    -Scott

I have an intellimouse and I love it.  It was pain though trying to setup in
X.  Here is what I did :

protocol should be "imps/2"
to get the mouse wheel to work (though it doesn't work like it does in
windows) just add "ZAxisMapping 4 5" after the other mouse items.

Hope this helps ...

Michael

MS Intellimouse Trackball not working with XFree86-3.3.3-1

There's a program called 'imwheel' which enables the MS Intellimouse
PS/2 wheel to function.  The package also includes a patched version of
'gpm' which fixes the other button problems with this mouse.

The 'imwheel' RPM package (imwheel-0.9.5.tar.gz) is available at:
http://solaris1.mysolution.com/~jcatki/imwheel

After installing, manually edit /etc/sysconfig/mouse and change the
mouse designator to 'imps2' (this becomes  the argument for gpm).

(The above instructions are for RH5.2;  I assume other Linux versions
will be similar).

Charles Sullivan

Take a look at freshmeat and search for "imwheel"
take a look at your gpm version from 1.13 it should be fine btw it's
included in imwheel
and change your XF86Config file following the readme & faq
if it doesn't work contact me, because i know it's a damn hard thing to
get it working.

good luck,

Greets Jo

1. XFree86-4.0 + MS Natural Keyboard + MS IntelliMouse TrackBall

Hi,

I have just installed the XFree86-4.0 on my AMD K6-2 system.  I have
setup the XF86Config file to include the MS Natural Keyboard and the MS
IntelliMouse TrackBall, but the /var/log/xdm-errors file has shown some
problem with the XKB keymap as follows:

+++++
The XKEYBOARD keymap compiler (xkbcomp) reports:
Couldn't load XKB keymap, falling back to pre-XKB keymap
Removing /usr/X11R6/lib/X11/fonts/Speedo/ from the valid list of
fontpaths
The XKEYBOARD keymap compiler (xkbcomp) reports:
The XKEYBOARD keymap compiler (xkbcomp) reports:
+++++

Meanwhile the wheel on the IntelliMouse TrackBall does not function at
all.

Can anyone please e-mail to me the working XF86Config file for the MS
Natural Keyboard and the MS IntelliMouse TrackBall?
