Help ? FTAPE fails to initialize

Post by Steve Ada » Wed, 24 Jul 1996 04:00:00

Good morning,
I have just installed the 2.0.5 kernel, the 2.0.0 modules, etc.  I
compiled ftape 2.08 and tried to: insmod -vVf ftape.o and received the
following messages:

darkstar:/boot# insmod -vVf ftape.o

I received the same messages with ftape 2.09.  What have I done wrong ?
All assistance is appreciated.

I had the same problem. I recompiled the kernel without qic-02 and
qic-117 support, and now everything seems to work ok.

1. insmod ftape:Initialization of ftape failed

Hello,

I (and not only me) have sometimes the problem with ftape. insmod ftape
returns the error : Initialization of ftape failed, and mostly i have to
reboot to make it work again. It doesn't matter if the tape is in or out
the drive when it happens, sometimes just waiting a while is just enough.
I don't acces the floppydrive before/during using the tape if that
matters. And i didn't test it to compile ftape NOT as a module, maybe that
could help don't know yet.
At least when a tape is inserted the tapedrive starts to rewind/position
the tape, this is weather the loading of ftape fails or not.

The tapedrive installed is a Seagate 400/800MB (on floppycontroller) which
kan handle also 120/240MB tapes, but the problem also exists with a
120/240MB drive (don't know the brand of that one).when the tape is
inserted the tapedrive starts to rewind/position the tape

I'm currently using kernel 2.0.30 but i noticed before at least with the
2.0.X kernels.

Any ideas?
