This is driving me crazy. I have installed multiple times with Slackware and Redhat.
When I finally get a proper setup that begins to boot from the hard drive, I get:
"Kernal panic: VFS: Unable to mount root fs on 08:01"
I have an intel 'Premiere/PCI Expandible Desktop' motherboard with the latest bios 1.00.08.AF1.
Sixty pentium, Adeptec 2940 SCSI II, Quantum 1.08 Gig, toshiba 4x CD.
System setup installs fine and I can boot from an linux install diskette. There seems to be a problem booting
up from the hard drive. When I try normally with no floppy loaded, the floppy light goes on and stays on, and
the system hangs. I go into the Bios and set it to 'boot from C only' and it does. I replaced the floppy drive
reflashed the bios, cleared the CMOS, tore out every card (except video-WD paradise).
I am at my wits end.
