Hello everybody,

having trouble installing redhat on my laptop (gateway solo 9550)
I have gone to the BIOS setup and the laptop is setup to boot from cd
rom first but no luck, I put the CD in, re-start the laptop, and it
will not boot from my CD. I know is not the CD because I used the CD
to install Redhat in my desktop. Could somebody please help me.

Well, if your laptop won't boot from the CD, there is not a lot
you can do about it. Make the boot disks from your CD and start with
that.
Did you looked on www.linux-laptop.net if there are some special
consideration for your laptop ?

Or do you simply need to set the boot options in bios?

1. Linux + suspend-to-disk + Gateway Solo 9550 Laptop?

I sort of inherited a used Gateway Solo 9550 laptop and I was wondering if
it's possible to get "suspend-to-disk" working on this thing with Linux?
I don't even know if the 9550 even supports suspend-to-disk.  Does it?
There doesn't seem to be any indication in the BIOS that the hardware
supports it.  The manual makes no mention of suspend-to-disk.  And when I
do put it in suspend mode (the BIOS does let you switch between
"power-off" or "suspend" when you hit the power button), it appears to
simply only go into a "low power consumption" mode and doesn't do a
"state-save" to the harddrive and shut off.

Also, like an idiot I completely wiped the harddrive and threw Linux on it
the moment I got the laptop so I don't know what the original factory
installed behavior of Windows was on the machine.  Perhaps it simply used
Windows' built-in support for suspend-to-disk.  If thats the case, then I
suppose I could try the Linux Software Suspend patch.  However, if the
hardware supports suspend-to-disk directly, I'd rather use that instead.

Thanks in advance for any help you can give me.
