How to get intel ethernet pro 100 back to work in redhat 7.2?

-Red Hat 7.2.
-Intel Ethernet  Pro 100 (82557)

Occationally I deleted eth0 by Red Hat's GUI app. "Network Configuration".
After that, the ethernet disappeared.

"netconfig" isn't  helpful.

How to get the NIC work again?

[etc]#

[sysconfig]# cat network
NETWORKING=yes
HOSTNAME=fubar.domain.tld
GATEWAY=192.168.0.1

[sysconfig]# cd network-scripts/
[network-scripts]# cat ifcfg-eth0
DEVICE=eth0
BOOTPROTO=static
BROADCAST=192.168.0.255
IPADDR=192.168.0.5
NETMASK=255.255.255.0
NETWORK=192.168.0.0

echo "alias eth0 eepro100" >> /etc/modules.conf
ifconfig eth0 up

then, I got the NIC back to work again. however, there's still a question
mark after i checked route table
route -n

127.0.0.0       0.0.0.0         255.0.0.0       U     0      0        0 lo

This all looks about right, except for the netmask in the
first line.  Check with the router/gateway at IP 192.28.48.1
for the right netmask, and then either use netconfig or put
this netmask value into /etc/sysconfig/network-scripts/ifcfg-eth0.

1. intel 100 pro card problem r.hat 7.2

hi
I'm having problems with an intel 100 pro card under redhat linux 7.2
I have another box with it working fine auto detecting irq (5) and i/o
(0x800) but this one is a compaq evo desktop and its an onboard bung
everything together style thing. I choose the eepro100 kernel module
and i've set irq 10 in the bios and in linux but i get an i/o conflict
showing up in the messages log. It seems to load the driver ok. If i
choose a completely wrong kernel module it says "may be i/o or irq
problem" but with the eepro100 module i get i/o param problem.
Has anyone had any problems with this card, or any suggestions on how
to solve it or is just a i/o problem that can't be solved.
