Upgrading kernel on Red Hat 4.2

Upgrading kernel on Red Hat 4.2

Post by Simon Fost » Fri, 14 Nov 1997 04:00:00

I've been trying to upgrade the kernel on my Red Hat 4.2 system
(2.0.30) by applying the 2.0.31 patch but could not get it to work.

Is it possible to upgrade Red Hat by applying a patch?  If so how?
Is there a patch.rpm?  Where is it?

Incidentally, I eventually got it working by downloading a complete
kernel!  This means my IP masquerading setup works now!!  Why wouldn't
it work on 2.0.30?

In fact the 2.0.30 kernel provided with the RH4.2 is a 2.0.30 kernel
prepatched (to fix some bugs with * hardware) so the 30->31 patch
you can download at kernel.org will only work for a non prepatched
version (2.0.30-x). You have to download the whole 2.0.31 kernel.
