I have yet to get ppp or dip up with a script, however from the hundreds of
pages I've read and the HOWTO's that I've come across, they say that you
can't run ppp through dip.

Look up the HOWTO's in the Linux Documentation Project.  they have a HOWTO
on Net-2 and PPP and they might help.

DIP Script Help

Post by Michael Per » Thu, 22 Feb 1996 04:00:00

Hi-

Am attempting to dial into my ISP with DIP.  The provider uses PPP.  Not sure how
this parameter is passed through dip.  Also uses VJ compression.  Here is sample
dip file for anyone that could help:

get $local 204.157.172.153
get $remote 204.157.172.253
get $mtu 1500 (should be mru??)
port ttyS1
speed 38400
reset
wait OK 1
send ATZ1
dial 757-3571
wait connect 30
sleep 3
send /r/n/r/n
login:
wait OK 1
send XXXXX/n
password:
wit OK 1
send XXXXX/n

The prompts that my provider offers are:

connect 28800/arq/lapm/v42bis
login:
password:
ppp session from (204.157.172.253) to 204.157.172.153 beginning

After the password is passed through the dip script I get lost as to what should
be included.  The existing script times out.  I can dial and get the modem to
negotiate.  Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hi, just try control+] to be back at the shell prompt and start your
PPP session.

try "\" instead of "/"
Quote:> login:
> wait OK 1

change it to"wait ogin: 15" or something
Quote:> send XXXXX/n
again, use "\n"
> password:
> wit OK 1
wait ssword: 15
> send XXXXX/n

\n
wait ppp 15
default
mode PPP
exit

Start it with /sbin/dip -v <scriptname> to see what it's doing (I guess you
already know that) and post the output if it's not working.

1. dip script help [still] needed...

where my particular ISP is concerned, sending \r's or \n's does
not work to wake up the SLIP server (it wants 3 carriage returns)
to start it up.

if any one has had a similar problem and had to resort to sending it
'0x'a  -- that sort of thing -- could you please email me your script or
your insights?

thanks a ton.
