A number of months back I posted my fixes for the Logitech FirstMouse+
both to this group and to Freshmeat, additionally there is information on

There is both a utility read the mouse events, and a piece of code which
performs post-initialization initialization of the wheel on the OEM
version of the mice (M-S48 and M-S48-OEM) Please read the documentation
before emailing me with additional questions.
