1.2.8: boot error: hda: DRDY error: status=0x01 { Error }

Short: df in linux 1.2.8 reports a smaller partition than Norton utilities!
        THIS HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH THE ROOT SPACE!!!
Long:
The followin is a report by Norton SysInfo:

     *   Partition Tables   *
                    Starting           Ending         Relative  Number of
   System Boot Side Track Sector  Side Track Sector   Sectors   Sectors
   BIGDOS Yes   1       0    1    11     250   34          34    102,374
     ?    No    0     251    1    11   1,003   34     102,408    307,224
     ?    No    0   1,004    1    11   1,023   34     409,632      8,160

One would expect a 50MB dos, 150MB ext2 and 4 mb swap (fstab):
/dev/hda2       /               ext2    defaults        1       1
/dev/hda1       /dosc           msdos   defaults        1       1
/dev/hda3       none            swap    sw

ok?! NO!!! df says:
Filesystem         1024-blocks  Used Available Capacity Mounted on
/dev/hda2             134326   85303    41343     67%   /
/dev/hda1              50964   46168     4796     91%   /dosc

so: where are my 16MB from /dev/hda2?!!!
note that 85+41=126, so the difference with 134 is 8 which is roughly 5%
for the root, so 150-134=16 is unaccounted for.

The following is probably related to the problem. When I boot the
system, I get the following error messages regarding the HD (sorry for
the lengthy report; you can search for "error"):

1. /dev/hdc status error: status=0x01 {Error}

I am getting this error when booting linux...Below is a clip from the
syslog.

Now, originally, I had NO ST3243A HDD attached to the system. My CD-ROM
was attached and being used as /dev/hdc. But I found this 200 meg drive
and attached it to the secondary master. Then this error came up! The
cd-rom and 200 meg drive work just fine...What the hell is up?

    Any help would be greatly appreciated. Please respond via email, as

Thanks!
Chris
