OK, I was daydreaming the other day about this setup, and was wondering if
it was doable....give me a hand here, please :)
The Scenario:
I have an ISP that does not have static IP addressing, and VERY ugly
dynamic ones. I'd like to have my machine accessible from a static
address, and maybe even show that my net connections are coming from that
static IP, though that would be icing on the cake.
The setup and explanations:
Dialup IP address: UglyIPAddy.dialup.com, address 100.100.100.40
Dialup IP router: Router.dialup.com, address 100.100.100.1
Static IP address: Home.acme.net, address 200.200.200.30
Static IP router: Router.acme.net, address 200.200.200.1
The Plan:
OK, I dial into my provider, who assigns me the address 100.100.100.40,
and dip sets up sl0 with that address. I have my IP address from Acme.com
which I assign to sl0:0 with an alias. Now my machine knows that
Home.acme.net is me, and it's a local address.
Next, fire up routed, advertise that I have the route for Home.acme.net
(200.200.200.30), and it is through UglyIPAddy.dialup.com (100.100.100.40).
Router.dialup.com gets the route, and makes a redirect entry on it's
routing tables, which hopefully propagates through all of dialup.com.
On Router.acme.net, add an entry to the routing tables to send packets
destined for Home.Acme.net to Router.Dialup.com. Now, Acme.com knows
where Home.Acme.com resides.
This is the basic setup....to make my machine accessible from
Home.Acme.com to the rest of the net, regardless of my dynamic IP address
from my dialin provider. If I COULD, I'd like to be able to connect to
the net with my address showing as Home.Acme.Com, which I know is
possible, since I've had a friend log onto IRC from 2 addresses, which
were the same machine.
OK, is this possible? What do I need to have set up? How can I show
my address as being from Home.acme.com when I go out onto the net?
TIA
