Crash of Filesystem, Help !

Post by Olivier Thoma » Wed, 25 Apr 2001 18:51:50

During the night my linux box / router firewall dhcp server has crashed.
Completely frozen. It seems to be a filesystem problem but I am not sure.
After rebooting the 1st time, here is the error message :

|Partition check :Hda : hda1 hda2
|Autodetecting RAID arrays
|.autorun done
|VFS : Mounted root (ext2 filesystem) readonly.
|Freeing unused Kernel memory : 64k freed
|Kernel panic : No init found. Try passing init= option to kernel

After rebooting with a boot-disk :

|Partition check :
|Hda : hda1 hda2
|Autodetecting RAID arrays
|. autorun done
|attempt to access beyond end of device
|03 :06 : rw=0, want=2, limit=0
|dev 03 :06 blksize=1024 blocknr=1 sector=2 size=1024 count=1
|EXT2-fs : unable to read superblock
|Attempt to access beyond end of device
|03 :06 : rw=0, want=33, limit=0
|dev 03 :06 blksize=1024 blocknr=32 sector=64 size=1024 count=1
|isofs_read_super : bread failed, dev=03 :06, iso_blknum=16. block=32
|Kernel panic : VFS : Unable to mount root fs on 03 :06

with the boot dosk it seems that it's unable to reach my file system.
Can anybody help me ?

Prolly not. Hope you have backups at hand. Maybe the partition table is
broken...I usually keep a backup of that.

Check with fdisk if the partitions look normal. If not, recheck what you
changed since the last reboot. Remember your system may run fine on a broken
setup until the next time you reboot. Have you changed you RAID configuration?
Modules? Your kernel? When was the last succesful reboot?

1. XFree86 3.3.5 crashes my filesystem. HELP !!

Hello :-)

When I run XFree86 3.3.5 for a while (max 2 days) on my
AMD K6-2 350, 128 Mo RAM, IBM 9 Go SCSI LVD2, Adaptec 2940UW2, CDROM
24x, CDRW Yamaha SCSI 4x/4x/16x,
2 ne2000 eth. cards, SB card (es1371.o), 3dfx2 Banshee Creative Labs

I have the following problem (under RH 6.1 and Mdk 6.1 too):
My ext2 filesystems (I have 2 partitions) crashes to the point I have to
reinstall Linux :-(

I've searched a lot b4 asking the question here, but the best I could
was something about some memory leak in XFree86 3.3.5.
Has someone encountered the same problem ??
Has someone got a fix ? Or do I have to downgrade to version 3.3.4 ??

Please help !
