Can I upgrade RH4.1 to 5.0 MANUALLY?

Can I upgrade RH4.1 to 5.0 MANUALLY?

Post by Joshu » Thu, 06 Aug 1998 04:00:00

I have two main questions regarding trying to install RH 5.0 or 5.1. For
some reason the installation program will not recognize the command
parameters I tried to enter (hda=cdrom ide1=0x168,0x36e,12). So my
questions are.

1) Why does the Red Hat 5.0 and 5.1 installer say these are unknown
options when the RH 4.1 installer recognizes them perfectly (so does the
kernel)

2) Is there some way that I can manually upgrade from 4.1 to 5.0. I've
heard this can be a problem but if there's any way to do it that would
seem to be a solution.

Thanks for your time

1. RH4.x->5.0 upgrade Sendmail/Procmail problems

After upgrading I had two problems with sendmail, first the new
procmail doesn't support "-a" anymore which required replacing
the "MAILER(local)" entry with a "MAILER(procmail)" entry in my
/usr/lib/sendmail-cf/*.mc files and remaking the .cf files. I
noticed that even the redhat .cf files still have entries with
procmail -a in them.

The second problem I cann't figure out, local mail works fine,
external mail always bombs with "stat=unknown mailer error 1"
in the maillog. What's wrong?
