Very Computer

I've been trying to get Linux installed from the latest InfoMagic CD.  I have
a 1.2GB EIDE drive, and my CMOS recognizes it ok.  My first drive is entirely
partitioned off to DOS, and the new large drive is entirely Linux.  I get every-
thing installed just fine, and can boot from the floppy.  When I install LILO,
I get the LI and then a hang.  The docs. say that there is either a geometry
mismatch or I moved the /boot/boot.b without running the map installer.
I have the geometry defined in my lilo.conf and ran /sbin/lilo.  What else
could be my problem.  I have lilo replacing the MBR so each mistake I then
go and re-install hda with fdisk /mbr on the DOS side.  Please help

Sounds like you may have installed the kernel about cylinder 1024,
in which case you can't boot it. But before you get e*d, try
adding the 'linear' keyword to the LILO global section.

Try using loadlin.exe from DOS, it is VERY safe and easy compared to
Lilo and you can easily set up a dual boot config.sys file which will
autoboot into Linux (or give you time out options)..

I had a similar problem with Dell machines, I used the lilo install disks,
they worked fine, but when I put lilo onto the hard disk, I regreted it very
much, it took me nearly a day to solve and correct everything, as I ended up,
deleting everything on the hard disk, and re-installing it all.. :-( Im not a
fan of lilo as a result, but have found like Neil that loadlin is very
simple.. It also means that you can use your DOS parition for DOSy things and
then make a batch file and run it and spring into linux..
