fuzzy search in Fox

Post by M.S. Ch » Fri, 12 Apr 1996 04:00:00

I am trying to implement a fuzzy (non-exact) searching routine in Foxpro
2.6.  What I would like to do is if someone enter name such as:

Steve Carson

I would return names such as these from the database:

Steven Carson
Stephen Carson
Steve Carsen
etc.

I have experiemented with the soundex() routine, but the result has been
inconsistent (sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't.)

Any assistance will be appreciated.

Ming,

You need to find the product named PhdBase from Korenthal
Associates.  I know they can be reached on Compuserve at GO
Korenthal.

soundex really sucks but there's a product call phdbase that looks like
what you're looking for.  i don't have any info on it though.
